Symptoms of Lumbago

Lumbago is a sharp pain in the lower back, similar to seizures. Lumbago occurs mainly on the basis of osteochondrosis. The disease develops unexpectedly after some specific movement of the spine, for example, tilt or turn. Pain in the lower back is considered the main symptom of lumbago.

During the development of osteochondrosis in the intervertebral discs of the lower back, pathological metabolic changes occur. As a result, the vertebral discs lose their ability to depreciate and begin to dry out. These phenomena lead to pain and nerve injury.

Symptoms of Lumbago

Lumbago, as a rule, affects a strong half of humanity between the ages of thirty and older. In the process of physical stress, after overheating or hypothermia, after an unsuccessful movement of the spine, pain in the lumbar region is sharply manifested. Patients themselves characterize these painful sensations as tearing, pulsating, shooting. In the process of exacerbation of pain in the lumbar region, a person is forced to freeze in the most comfortable position in which the pain calms down at least a little. Any movement during an attack only intensifies pain, muscle spasm occurs.

An attack of pain lasts for several minutes, but can be even longer. The pain subsides when the body is at rest and lying down. In some cases, the pain disappears on their own as unexpectedly as they manifested. Over the next weeks, slight pain is felt in the lumbar region, which becomes stronger during sneezing, coughing, or stomach tension. The pain is characterized as deep.

Another symptom of lumbago is a forced restriction of the motor function of the lumbar region and straining of the spinal muscle tissue. Movement is limited by soreness and tension in the muscles, but loss of ability to move is not observed. At rest, painful sensations pass completely, but with any attempt to move, they return. Over time, pain can turn into the category of chronic diseases. In some cases, acute lumbago may be observed.

Diagnosis of lumbago

Diagnosis of the disease is based on symptoms of lumbago, such as severe headache and limited back mobility in the lumbar region. In the process of diagnosis, an x-ray of the lower back is performed to differentiate the symptoms of lumbago from a neoplasm that compresses the spinal nerves.

Lumbago therapy

Firstly, to eliminate the symptoms of lumbago, bed rest is prescribed on a solid surface for several days. To eliminate soreness, pain medication, novocaine and sedative drugs are used.

During exacerbation of the symptoms of lumbago, doctors advise you to follow a diet with the exception of everything salty, smoked and very sharp. It is necessary to abandon fatty meat and fat. Very useful vegetables in any form, as well as porridge.

To eliminate the inflammatory process, physiotherapy procedures are prescribed – irradiation with ultraviolet rays until the skin turns red, electric currents and other events. In addition, a therapeutic massage is performed to eliminate muscle tension.

As local remedies, ointments and creams are used that have an antispasmodic property. These medicines are rubbed into the affected area. If necessary, resort to the procedure of stretching the spine, for example, on special simulators. After the patient’s condition improves, therapeutic exercises and swimming are prescribed.
