4×4 rule

I introduced this rule into my practice after I was lucky enough to work with the Kamaz-Master team on an off-road rally, in particular on a Paris-Dakar rally. Have you ever driven an off-road sports car? In these cars, everything is excessively reinforced: safety arches, suspensions, shock absorbers, body – only so that they do not fall apart on these routes. They are called 4×4 SUVs. And ordinary crossovers are equipped only for driving on paved roads. They are called “SUVs.” The operation of such cars does not require reinforcement of the body, like SUVs.

So all athletes are 4×4 SUVs.

Their musculoskeletal system (OA) is under enormous strain and therefore requires the same tremendous recovery effort.

If the crossover requires a routine inspection (TO) after every 15 thousand km, then an SUV – after each stage of an off-road rally. Feel the difference?

Athletes are sure that if they have well-developed muscles and are able to withstand enormous loads, they cannot have diseases associated with muscle failure, such as osteochondrosis. But athletes forget that they are “SUVs”, and they need to carry out prophylaxis during the operation of their body after each training session, and not 2-3 times a week, as people far from sports.

Athletes are sure that if they have well-developed muscles and are able to withstand enormous loads, they cannot have diseases associated with muscle failure, such as osteochondrosis.

True, it is easy to recover and treat athletes with kinesitherapy. They are motivated for active treatment and even after serious injuries received during training or during competitions, they dream of returning to sports, therefore they can work and be patient when following all the recommendations of the kinesitherapist. Sports people do not belong to that typical category of patients, which I characterize with three words: lazy, cowardly and weak.

Treatment programs for off-road vehicles are both harder and harder. We have to teach them how to cope with pain arising from movement, and sometimes heal longer, because they come in extreme cases, because for a long time they try to cope on their own with the usual methods.

When examining them for pain in the lumbar spine, in athletes I find, as a rule, powerful, but completely clogged, one might say, wooden muscles. At the same time, athletes have normal mobility of the spine itself and sufficient flexibility. If you compare them with those who are far from sports. Athletes, mind you, had to create individual super-reinforced programs to get to the spasmodic zones of overtrained muscles. And super-effort is an opportunity to endure loads that even these trained people seemed over-threshold. But the result of patience and work was new sporting achievements and the ability to be healthy, playing sports.

But back to the problems of the medical history of SUVs – people who are far from sports. It’s more difficult with them …

Fourth medical history:

“Tired of living?”

Kovalkovsky V.A., 61 years old.

Complaints of acute lumbar pain for 4 months, extending to the right leg. Difficulty tilting after sitting.

The main diagnosis: common osteochondrosis with the phenomena of osteoporosis.

Dramatically reduced the height of the MTD L5-S1.

Of the concomitant diseases, prostate adenoma , drug allergy, unstable blood pressure can be noted .

Previously treated as usual: drugs, blockades and even exercise therapy.

We diagnosed the deep muscles and ligaments of not only the spine, but also the lower extremities. Against the background of curvature of the lumbar spine, an overstrain of the muscles of the thoracic and lumbar spine and, again, weakness of the legs (test result) were revealed (for the umpteenth time ).

Having emphasized the treatment of this patient, first of all, on restoring the strength and elasticity of the muscles of the lower extremities, we achieved the desired result. The patient started recovering, as there were no other problems associated with this disease.

Involuntarily the question arises: “Why do people stop monitoring themselves?” Old age? But 60 years is not the age of old age. Physiologists say that a person who monitors his health reaches maximum strength endurance by the age of 65. In our case, the patient simply stopped doing gymnastics, that is, taking care of himself … Or he reconciled: “60 years is the time of illness,” doctors say.

For reference: large muscles (which include the muscles of the legs) in the absence of strength exercises lose their volume up to 30 % in 4 days of immobility.

When I worked as the chief doctor of a neuropsychiatric boarding school for the elderly, I realized that old age is terrible only if a person has not prepared himself for it. It was then that I, a 35-year-old doctor, had an aphorism: “Life is lost to someone who has not prepared himself for old age. And old age is not age, but the loss of muscle tissue that begins after 30 years . ”

This is scary because people who are in the state of half-life of their body want to live, but there is nothing to live on. And they no longer realize this. Many have decades of eventful events. They are respected and revered. They gave all of themselves to work, to their family, while forgetting to take care of their own body, putting it aside for retirement, for old age. And when the moment of retirement came, it turned out that it was impossible to live in a body so worn out by diseases. He left trash. Then I was not yet ready to take the liberty of giving such people radical advice to get out of such situations, I lacked experience and life observations. Now, after many years, I am ready to give recipes, but, as practice shows, not everyone who needs them can use them. And all for the same reason. “It’s too late to be thrifty when it’s left on the bottom, and what’s left is the worst.” Seneca (ancient Roman philosopher).

Physiologists say that a person who monitors his health reaches maximum strength endurance by the age of 65.
