Uncomplicated osteochondrosis is usually treated with conservative methods. But what if the given stage of treatment does not bring satisfactory results for both the patient and the doctor? More often this issue becomes relevant for a number of complications of osteochondrosis, when surgical intervention is an absolute direct indication.
Osteochondrosis is treated surgically with spinal canal stenosis. The cause of its appearance is a hernia or protrusion of the disc. This complication is fraught with compression of blood vessels and nerves, as well as the spinal cord. Another indication is the presence of an unstable vertebral-motor segment. With this pathology, the vertebrae can move relative to each other along the horizontal axis. If the patient has a hernia of the intervertebral disc, the question may also arise about the operation, but there may be options, depending on how it manifests itself symptomatically, how the conservative treatment works, what is the patient’s condition.
With osteochondrosis, it is possible to perform several types of operations. One of them is supporting spinal fusion: a defective disc is removed, a prosthesis is introduced in its place. An innovative method is laser nucleotomy, which is characterized by small trauma.
Surgery, unfortunately, is associated with some difficulties and risks. Firstly, a number of people do not note satisfaction and improvement after surgery. Secondly, relapses occur.
But it should be borne in mind that the methods of surgical treatment are constantly being improved, developed, new unique techniques and technologies are found.
