The consequences of computer organization of life
As you know, technological progress creates comfort for the lazy and the field of activity – for the restless. The latter came up with a steam locomotive, an airplane, a car, a rocket engine, replaced the scores with an arithmometer, an arithmometer with a calculator, the latter was soon converted to a computer, which created a lot of new professions and jobs by the fact of its existence . But now it’s not about the computer. And not even about technical progress. Well, that , you have not guessed? It will be about the comfort of the lazy, as well as about the “reckoning” for him.
So who is sitting at the computer? Accountants, programmers, scientists, system administrators, engineers, writers and journalists. In a word, “white-collar workers” or, quite simply, office workers. Of course, they can be called lazy very conditionally. After all, they work, strain the brain gyrus. And yet …
Part of their work is taken over by the computer. They do not have to rummage through encyclopedias, reference books, run through libraries in search of the necessary information. This is partly done for them by the Internet, and partly by the computer program involved in this work. It does not make sense to spread further – everyone knows that a computer is a convenient and necessary thing .
But they work at a computer while sitting. And they sit behind him for 6 to 8 hours. This is the very “payment” for progress. The consequences of a sedentary lifestyle are not only unnecessary kilograms of weight, but also pain. Pain in the back and arms, joints, as well as headaches are associated with the usual position of the body and improper distribution of physical activity.
It’s all about the spine
The human body is multifunctional and able to withstand heavy loads. This is done at the expense of the muscles and spine. During the “sitting” at the computer, the muscles of the neck, shoulder girdle and back “work” , which causes their overwork and increases the load on the spine. Here is where it and the problems begin. We notice that at the end of the working day it is difficult for us to turn our heads, bend and bend over , our shoulders and arms hurt . This makes itself felt sedentary.
Wise nature designed the vertebral column so that it can function as long as possible: it consists of vertebrae, and between them are special “shock absorbers” – intervertebral discs that protect against compression and friction against each other. The spinal cord passes inside the spine, the processes of the vertebrae form openings from which the roots of the spinal nerves exit.
What happens to the spine during the same actions? In the course of long sedentary work, the body is in a so-called usual or forced position. The muscles responsible for maintaining this position do not relax, and the result is their persistent tension, which causes a gradual displacement of the vertebrae and “erasure” of the intervertebral discs. As a result, the posture deteriorates, the person begins to hunch. But , and that’s not all. An increase in sitting for many hours can provoke pinching of the roots of the spinal nerves. And now the neck is not only difficult, but simply impossible to turn because of a sharp pain, but it happens that you cannot breathe in or out, or you can’t sit down . And now, there is a disease called osteochondrosis and is subject to treatment, sometimes in a hospital.
In addition to all of the above, a headache can be a consequence of hours of sitting at the desk.
Break away from the chair
“What a horror!” Someone will exclaim after reading these lines. But what to do? Having become like Leo Tolstoy, urgently to leave for the village, plow the land and dig in the garden? Well, of course, such an option is also possible if it suits you. However, not everything is as scary as you think, and radical changes in the form of waving a rake and a shovel can not be taken. It is enough to follow a number of simple rules every day.
- Distribute the load correctly. If you spend enough time at the office desk, take breaks (for 5–7 minutes), during which you walk around the office, water the flowers, make tea for colleagues. The main thing is to tear yourself away from the chair, change the position of the body.
- Use lunch time not only for eating, find an opportunity for at least a short walk – and lunch will be digested faster, and legs will work, and breathe air
- Sports are very useful: fitness, yoga, swimming are most preferable because they relieve muscle tension and contribute to the flexibility of the spine.
- If you do not have time and energy for sports, do exercises (not necessarily in the morning, you can in the evening).
- When you get to work in the morning, try to walk a few stops.
- When purchasing products in a store, try to distribute their weight evenly on both hands.
- And most importantly – walk more!
