Life with back pain

Back pain is a constant companion of people with osteochondrosis. In this disease, a person suffers from intervertebral discs, as a result of which the intervertebral foramen are narrowed and the spinal nerve roots emerging through them are constricted, which causes severe back pain to the person. But these pains can be prevented or significantly reduced if a patient with osteochondrosis learns to walk, sit, lie and stand correctly.

How to sit with back pain

A person with osteochondrosis should avoid upholstered furniture. Its body should be supported by sciatic tubercles, which can only provide rigid seats. To prevent back pain, a person with osteochondrosis should have special furniture that will meet the following requirements: the height of the seat should correspond to the length of the lower leg, so that the leg rests on the floor. The depth of the seat is approximately 23 hips, and to avoid strong bending of the legs, there should be enough space under the table. In case of forced long sitting it is necessary to carry out small workouts at least every 20 minutes. The back during sitting should be straight and fit snugly against the back of the chair so as not to strain the muscles of the body once again. For back pain, it is very important that she has good support, and to maintain the lumbar bend, you can put a special thin roller under the back. If a person is driving, then after an hour and a half of driving, he needs to take a break, get out of the car and do gymnastic exercises.

Also, it is necessary to periodically change postures while watching TV at home.

How to stand for back pain

The spine is particularly stressed when a person is standing. You can significantly reduce the load on the spine if you change the pose every 10-15 minutes and gradually shift the weight of the body from one leg to another. If this is possible, it is better to move in place or walk. In order to relieve a little fatigue from the muscles of the back, shoulder girdle, neck and neck, every 15 minutes you need to do a pull-up, bending your back back and stretching your arms up.

To reduce back pain while washing dishes or ironing, you can alternately substitute a chair under one, then under another knee, or shift from one foot to another. The best option is to sit down while doing such exercises.

When working with a vacuum cleaner or while washing the floor, you should not bend low, it is better to squat if necessary. When a person leans over, a sharp attack of back pain may accompany this. In order to avoid this, you need to bend over, bending your knees and resting your hand on a chair or table.

How to lie with back pain

For sleep, people with osteochondrosis should have a semi-rigid bed (but by no means rigid) – this way the body will be able to maintain its physiological bends in the supine position. For back pain, it is preferable to sleep on the stomach, and so that the lower back does not bend and cause pain, you can put a small pillow under the stomach.

In the presence of acute back pain, it is very difficult for a person to get out of bed in the morning. To facilitate lifting, you can first do some physical exercises for the arms and legs, then, turning over on the stomach, lower one leg to the floor, and, leaning on it, gradually transfer the body weight to the knee, lifting smoothly and without sudden movements.

How to lift and move heavy objects

It should be noted that, whenever possible, with back pain, it is better to try not to lift or move weights, but if such an urgent need arose, then lifting weights in no case should be abrupt jerks. It is also unacceptable to bend and unbend the back, if there is a heavy thing in the hands. If the severity must be moved over a long distance, then it should be held with two hands.

Patients with osteochondrosis are not recommended to lift and carry weights, the weight of which exceeds 15 kilograms. For particularly heavy items, you can use a bag with wheels, a cart or a backpack with wide straps.
